Calling for Critical Compilations!

Hey! Did you know Critical Distance is turning 10 years old in a matter of months? That’s a few centuries in online time. Civilizations have risen and fallen in the time since this website launched, and we’re going to wager at least a handful of games have come out since then too.

Many games come and go from the public eye in the span of a few days. But other games stick in our memory and invite discussion for weeks, months, and even years. That’s why Critical Distance has a feature known as Critical Compilations, which bring together all the best writing on the most prominent, hotly-discussed games like Braid, Bioshock, and Dark Souls.

To help promote the critical bodies of work which surround these important games, Critical Distance has decided to commission five new Critical Compilations. Here are some of the games we’re looking for:

  • Amnesia
  • Assassin’s Creed series
  • Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2
  • The Beginner’s Guide
  • Bioshock 2
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Dear Esther
  • Deus Ex series
  • Dishonored series
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Fallout 4
  • Far Cry series
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy X and X-2
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Gone Home
  • Heavy Rain
  • Journey
  • Kentucky Route Zero
  • L.A. Noire
  • The Last of Us
  • Mass Effect series
  • Metal Gear series
  • Metro series
  • Nier Automata
  • Nier Gestalt and Replicant
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Papers, Please
  • Pathologic
  • Portal and Portal 2
  • P.T.
  • Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Spelunky
  • The Stanley Parable
  • The Walking Dead (Telltale)
  • The Witcher trilogy

We’ll consider pitches for games outside this list, but these are the ones we’re considering high priority right now!

If you have an interest in writing a Critical Compilation on one of these games, please shoot us an email! We’d love to hear about your personal background with the game (did you review it? follow the discourse closely? were you a developer on it?) and why this is the one you most wish to tackle. Links to your past writing are great too!

And yes, as with all commissioned pieces on Critical Distance, these are paid assignments.

Many thanks to our generous Patreon donors for helping us to promote features like these! If you want to support Critical Distance’s continued mission to promote and preserve good games criticism, consider adding your pledge!
